Doctors & Staff

Dr. Jay Schweizer, DVM

Earning magna cum laude honors, Dr. Schweizer received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Missouri in 1992. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Avian Veterinarians. He loves his dog Pearl and his cat Mr. Whiskers. The proud husband of Ronee and father of three sons – Jacob, Luke, and Timothy – Dr. Schweizer enjoys fishing, boating, swimming, and biking.

Dr. Charity Vuagniaux, DVM, CVA

Dr. Vuagniaux graduated from the University of Missouri with her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 2004. Her professional interests are internal medicine and surgery, and she is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Vuagniaux received training in medical acupuncture for dogs, cats, and exotic companion animals in April 2015. She and her husband Corey love spending time with their many pets – a Boxer named Apollo, a Golden Retriever named Gordy, two cats named Noah and Jasmine, a horse named Ginger, and a miniature donkey named Zip. When she isn’t surrounded by animals, Dr. Vuagniaux serves as president of the Dynamic Connections ABWA chapter and a member of Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Kevin Harsha, DVM

Dr. Harsha received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Kansas State University in 1997. Today he is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association,and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association. He is the proud husband to Kristi and father to Rebecca and Zach, with whom he cares for a Beagle named Beau Norman and a Boston Terrier named Bailey. In his spare time, Dr. Harsha loves camping, fishing, reading, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors.

Dr. Melanie Ray, DVM

Dr. Ray grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Her professional interests include surgery and dentistry. With her fiancé Jarod, she cares for a cat named Khaleesi and a horse named Cotton. In her free time, Dr. Ray enjoys jet skiing, horseback riding, and cheering on her Kansas City sports teams.

Dr. Dana Dacus Wells, DVM

Dr. Dana Dacus Wells earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1998. She has worked in the veterinary field for over 20 years in Missouri and Kansas. She continues to keep pets happy and healthy today with comprehensive medicine and a comforting bedside manner. Practicing alongside a top quality hospital team to deliver the finest clinical care for her clients and their pets is her favorite part about working at Crysler Animal Hospital. Dr. Dacus Wells has professional interests in veterinary dentistry, nutritional counseling, geriatric medicine, and small animal surgery. Dr. Dacus Wells’ first pet was a Doberman mix named Emily, and she currently is a pet parent to two dogs, Izzy and Buddy, and five cats: Simon, Mama Kitty, JoJo, Moo Kitty, and Mavis. Her hobbies include reading, kayaking, water sports, and being outdoors. She also enjoys time spent with her husband and two children. 

Maureen Rettig, Practice Manager

Maureen is always surrounded by animals – she lives with a Labrador named Gideon, a Bichon named Cassie Mae, three cats, Zari, Satin, and Cailin, two African Gray Parrots, Scarlett and Rett, and two Macaws, Button and Ollie. When she’s not at Crysler, Maureen and her husband Dan love spending as much time as possible with their seven grandchildren.
